Windy & Starbuck's
Family Updates

Taken Tuesday, 1/18/05
(Pups were 3 weeks + 3 days old)

Tuesday was another special day. Mr. Green became the first doggie to climb out of the box. No, not the big whelping box, but the 4" tall plastic box where Maryann puts the pups while she changes the big box. This was an enormous victory for the pups, who've been trying for the last few days to get out. Not long after, Ms. Burgundy made her escape, as well.

Mr. Big ate 2 or 3 pieces of dry puppy kibble that Windy had deposited on the bed (held in reserve for a rainy day). So did Ms. Blue. Mr. Orange tasted the kibble once or twice, but didn't eat any.

Once Maryann had put in fresh lining, she returned the pups to the "Big Box". Ms. Blue was the last to go, so she had an opportunity to be with Windy on the bed all by herself. First, Windy groomed her, then Blue and Windy played. In the end, as you can see in the pictures below, both were very happy. More news!

Afterwards, they were both happy!

Today (Wednesday, 1/19), Rich will rearrange our "middle" bedroom (Maryann's music, library, and sewing room) so he can put the portable fence enclosure inside. We can control the temperature in this room more easily than in their future long-term location, the "family room". The whelping box will go inside this 'corral', so climbing puppies will stay in a safe zone.

Once the pups are secure in the corral (where we can keep Windy out, when necessary), it's time for their first real meal of puppy chow (soaked in warm water). We should have some interesting pictures (and video) of this event!

In other news, Rich digitized an hour of analog videotape we shot during the pups' arrivals and the next few days. It fills more than 3 CDs. He's pondering how (and how much) to put on the site, and he's leaning toward using a freeware utility to split the files into chunks around 70 Meg each, so you can download and combine them just like the originals. This is not a high priority; I just wanted to whet your appetite (versus wet the bed, the puppies say).
